| ¡¡ Zhi Mian Institute for Psychotherapy (original name: Zhi Mian Counseling Center) was established in 2002 by Dr. Wang Xuefu with a galaxy of supporters that shared common care and concern for Chinese people in a transitional period. Zhi Mian is an independent social service organization with a mission to encourage the disheartened, support the weak, heal the wounded, and bring back the escaped.
Currently Zhi Mian has six full-time professionals and more than 30 part-time counselors and researchers.
Zhi-Mian works in three major areas: counseling, training, and research & publication.
Counseling: Zhi Mian provides interview counseling, free hotline counseling, and group counseling, as well as psychological assessment that aids in self-awareness and career orientation.
Training: Since her founding in 2002, Zhi Mian has been endeavoring in promoting psychological counseling and pastoral counseling in China. In cooperation with other professional organizations, Zhi Mian has sponsored various training programs in counseling and psythotherapy. In 2005 Zhi Mian initiated an Extended Counseling Program (ECP) that offers training in basic psychological counseling knowledge and skills through distance learning. Currently we have enrolled 800 students from 26 provinces of China, the majority of whom are church leaders, seminary students, and lay Christians. Besides, we conducted training in many local churches in China as well as seminaries and Bible Schools.
Research and Publication. Zhi Mian is exploring and establishing an indeginous mothod which we call "Zhi Mian Therapy". "Zhi Mian Report" is our monthly journal that reveals our pioneer of counseling in Chinese cultural context. We have printed 12 textbooks for "ECP" students and some books in pastoral counseling. Turning from Escape to Zhi Mian, a book that reflects our experience in the exploration of "Zhi Mian Method", is about to be published in Beijing in 2008.
Zhi Mian Institute for Psychotherapy has established wide connection with a variety of supportive international organizations such as Mennonite Partner of China, Fuller Seminary Graduate School of Psychology, Outreach Foundation, Korea Professional Psychotherapy Institute, Hong Kong Counseling and Mediation Service...
Zhi Mian is described by Dr. Sing-kiat Ting as "indeed a jewel for the Chinese people".
